WASPPA History

The first annual WASPPA conference was held at California State University, Fullerton in 2020. At that time, the conference was called the California Conference for Motor Behavior, Sport, and Exercise Psychology (CCMBSEP). The conference was created as a result of discussions among a group of California State University faculty who felt that students at their respective campuses would benefit from a dedicated student-oriented conference where ongoing and completed research projects could be shared in a supportive environment. We have since changed our name to the Western Association for Sport Psychology and Physical Activity (WASPPA), but the conference remains intended for students in the areas of Motor Behavior (Development, Learning, and Control) and the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity.
